A bit about myself
Barra Convery is an emerging director based on the West coast of Ireland whose approach and aesthetic is defined by a hybrid sensibility between cinematic and sonic languages.
In 2020, Barra graduated from Brighton Screen and Film School with First Class Honours after studying for 2 years in Galway Technical Institute and has spent the past 3 years in the field of non-narrative / experimental short films.
His poetry film adaptation of 'Finding Mothers' (2022) by Lorna Shaughnessy was awarded a pre-selection to Cork International Film Festival with programmer Don O'Mahony commenting on the piece as- “an ambitious, layered film in terms of visuals, sounds and ideas, touching on ideas of childhood, masculinity and growing up.”
In 2023, Barra one of ten Irish filmmakers selected for First Cut's music video competition and mentorship. He is currently in production of his debut narrative short, a proof-of-concept of his feature script project.
